THE TOUR, a 2 day, backcountry ski touring team’s race, based out of Cheeseman Ski Area is set to be the high light of the 2009 Ski Mountaineering New Zealand (SkiMoNZ) race calendar.
THE TOUR will take place on the 19th and 20th of September 2009 and follow a similar format to some of the biggest ski mountaineering races in Europe, like the TSF and Pierra Menta. Teams of 2 will travel together, following an established course; the team with the lowest accumulated time at the end of the 2nd day will be crowned the overall winner.
Conditions permitting, each day THE TOUR will be made up of at least 1300 vertical meters of ascent and descent.
Entry for THE TOUR will open around early July and be limited to only 25 teams.
